8 Oscar Nominations for Films from the 2016 Sundance Film Festival

Nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday and Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea, which premiered to rave reviews at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, took the lead in Sundance-supported films with six nominations, including Best Picture. Casey Affleck earned a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film as Lee Chandler, a man with a haunting past who is named guardian to his 16-year-old-nephew. In the world of nonfiction, Roger Ross Williams’ incredible true story Life, Animated, about an autistic man who depends on Disney movies to develop reading, writing and communication skills, received a Best Documentary nod.
